TURNING 40
Dear friends & family,
We can’t take any creds for having been born 40 years ago, but the anniversary is a wonderful opportunity to throw a party, and our only wish is for you to be there. We promise plenty of food, drinks, time for catching up, and music into the late hours. Big smiles and party vibes mandatory, 80s outfits optional.
information
program
The event is on May 16th because
May 17th is "the" big party day in Norway,
as most of you might have experienced or heard of.
(If not, you’ll find the boring facts here and experience the real fun in Oslo on May 17th.)
We know it’s tough with two party days in a row, but we also know you can pull it off, and it makes for a more exciting trip for those of you travelling here to join us.
Attire
May 16th:
Casual, outdoor party. Bring a sweater/jacket. No high heels. 80s outfit optional.
May 17th:
Men typically wear a suit and tie, women a dress, unless in national costume. Weather can range from sunny and warm to rainy and cold, so bring warm clothes and comfortable shoes to enjoy the street parties.
16th May
5pm onwards
Dinner party, mostly outdoors
Adults only: Let us know in the RSVP form if you’d like us to put you in touch with a babysitter for the evening.
Kids are more than welcome the following day on 17th May :)
17th May
Drop-in, optional BBQ so you have a base while enjoying the national day street parties
Time: 1pm onwards, ending around 8pm. (You’ll likely be tired by then, but we’ve seen you party before and bet some of you will group together and go out thereafter.)
Format: Barbecue. We will be hosting a relaxed, drop-in barbecue for everyone who'd like to spend more time with us - no pressure. You can come and go as you like. Very central location and suitable as a base to come and go, drop off your stuff etc. while enjoying the street parties
Kids friendly all day
Note: If you want to see the national day children’s parade, note that it passes the Royal Palace from ~10:30am until ~12:30pm. Don’t be late :)
Accommodation
The party is at our place, which is very central, Oscars gate 17, 0352 Oslo
Cool/hipster areas: Grunerlokka, St. Hanshaugen
New high-end hotels: Sommero, The Thief
Our tips for May 17th
Expect chaos in town and long lines at restaurants throughout the day. We have an optional base at our place with BBQ and drinks, but the day is yours so feel free to do whatever you want. Norwegians start drinking Champagne for breakfast and most won’t make it into the late hours, so enjoy the day party and let the night be a surprise if you get there :)
For our non-Norwegian friends:
Since Norwegians start 17th May with a Champagne breakfast with close friends, we’re arranging one for our non-Norwegian friends at our place starting at 11am.
For INSEADers: The Norway alumni org is arranging the INSEAD Alumni Forum in Oslo on the 15th and 16th and they welcome alumni from all over the world. Theme: energy transformation.
